A village knotted by condemnation, secrecy and dysfunction gets a shot at redemption thanks to a troubled 10-year-old boy in The Pit, directed by Dace Pūce. This movie (the Latvian entry for an Academy Award, Best International Feature Film,) reminds me of our interconnectedness, how we all rise and fall together, how everybody has a place in a caring community.
