Fresh perspective on Old Hollywood

Just posted my 5-star review on Amazon.

Enjoy this book as I did!

And introducing Dexter Gaines, A Novel of Old Hollywood is sheer pleasure to read. Dan Root’s arrival in Hollywood—and his love entanglements as he climbs toward stardom—makes for a compelling page-turner from the start.

Author Mark Perry’s many awards are well deserved; the elegance and sophistication of his storytelling are evident on every page. This is a smart, steamy novel about ambition and desire, power and secrecy, set against the glamour of old Hollywood, and the parallel world of queer lives lived underground in constant fear. The story is full of unexpected twists and dilemmas, all handled with warmth and compassion.

A standout section is Dexter’s voyage on the maiden crossing of the SS United States. Perry brings the dignity and romance of the great steamliner era vividly to life—an especially poignant touch now, as the ship makes her final journey toward the ocean floor as an artificial reef.

An excellent, immersive tale. “Oh, the things that might have been …”

Available on Amazon and probably everywhere.

A cinematic story. Wouldn't be at all surprised to see it on the big screen one day.
